Generating Statistical Language Models from Interpretation Grammars in Dialogue Systems
نویسنده
چکیده
In this paper, we explore statistical language modelling for a speech-enabled MP3 player application by generating a corpus from the interpretation grammar written for the application with the Grammatical Framework (GF) (Ranta, 2004). We create a statistical language model (SLM) directly from our interpretation grammar and compare recognition performance of this model against a speech recognition grammar compiled from the same GF interpretation grammar. The results show a relative Word Error Rate (WER) reduction of 37% for the SLM derived from the interpretation grammar while maintaining a low in-grammarWER comparable to that associated with the speech recognition grammar. From this starting point we try to improve our artificially generated model by interpolating it with different corpora achieving great reduction in perplexity and 8% relative recognition improvement.

Grammar-based context-specific statistical language modelling
This paper shows how we can combine the art of grammar writing with the power of statistics by bootstrapping statistical language models (SLMs) for Dialogue Systems from grammars written using the Grammatical Framework (GF) (Ranta, 2004). Furthermore, to take into account that the probability of a user’s dialogue moves is not static during a dialogue we show how the same methodology can be used...
متن کامل"Build Your Own" Spoken Dialogue Systems: Automatically Generating ISU Dialogue Systems from Business User Resources
Building effective spoken dialogue systems (SDS) is currently a complex task requiring expert knowledge. Our tools give control of SDS application development to non-experts, who need only use a Graphical User Interface or GUI to develop state-of-the-art “Information State Update” (ISU) dialogue systems. Behind the GUI is a set of Advanced Dialogue Tools (ADT) that generate complete SDS based o...
متن کاملMultimodal Dialogue System Grammars∗
We describe how multimodal grammars for dialogue systems can be written using the Grammatical Framework (GF) formalism. A proof-of-concept dialogue system constructed using these techniques is also presented. The software engineering problem of keeping grammars for different languages, modalities and systems (such as speech recognizers and parsers) in sync is reduced by the formal relationship ...
متن کاملStatistical methods in natural language understanding and spoken dialogue systems
Modern automatic spoken dialogue systems cover a wide range of applications. There are systems for hotel reservations, restaurant guides, systems for travel and timetable information, as well as systems for automatic telephone-banking services. Building the different components of a spoken dialogue system and combining them in an optimal way such that a reasonable dialogue becomes possible is a...
متن کاملNatural language understanding using statistical machine translation
Over the past years, automatic dialogue systems and telephonebased machine inquiry systems have received increasing attention. In addition to an automatic speech recognizer and a dialogue manager, such systems consist of a natural language understanding (NLU) component. Some of the most investigated approaches to NLU are rule-based methods as Stochastic Grammars, which are often written manuall...
